Harvester heads to Washington
For many years, two world-renowned
algae scientists, Don Anderson Ph.D., and
Wayne Carmichael Ph.D., have consulted
with and been closely involved with our
harvesting process. They have watched the
harvesting process evolve over the years
and are delighted with our current system.
(Be sure to view an interview with Don
and Wayne in the Technical tab of our
website.) Don is the senior scientist and
director of the Coastal Ocean Institute at
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution;
Wayne is professor and director of the
Environmental Sciences Ph.D. program
at Wright State University. Both recently
contributed to the “Scientific
Assessment of Freshwater Harmful
Algal Blooms,” one of five reports
mandated by Congress in the Harmful
Algal Blooms and Hypoxia Research
and Control Act of 2004. Wayne was
on the committee that wrote the
report, and the section Don
contributed to includes a sidebar
titled “New Harvesting Technology
Improves Safety of Blue-Green Algal
Supplements” as well as a picture of
our harvester. The report is due to
be submitted to Congress in March
or April of 2007. We are happy to
provide you with a copy of the text of that
sidebar, and we’re equally happy that through the expertise of these
world-class scientists, information about our harvesting technology will be presented to
Congress. As you will see when reading this sidebar, our havesting methods are presented
as a model for safe and effective algae harvesting.
