She’s a devoted mother of
two sons, Kenny and
Christopher, and is
married to Brian Bailey
(who also brings two
sons to the blended
family). She herself is
a full-time civil litigation
specialist and a
partner in a law firm
in Austin, Texas…
and yet she has
time in this busy
schedule for a
national competitive
sport? Meet Kappy
Allen, who won the
world championship in
barrel racing in the year
2000. Kappy grew up in
the world of rodeo competition—
her father Grady
competed in tie-down roping and
qualified for the 1960 National
Finals Rodeo. In 1998 Kappy bought an
American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) registered
gelding, Risky Chris. Through a friend, Kappy
heard about our very own Madalyn Ward, DVM, author
of the recently published book Holistic Horsekeeping
and a past president of the American Holistic
Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA). Madalyn got
Risky Chris started on Simplexity Health products, and he has
been eating them for six years now (including the year
that he helped his owner win the world title in barrel
racing). It isn’t unusual for an animal’s needs to
connect its owner with Simplexity Health’s products, and after
witnessing Risky Chris’s success with the products,
eventually Kappy decided to try them for herself.
Kappy lives in Austin, Texas, and has been a
member of the Women’s Professional Rodeo
Association since 1997. For those of us who have no
concept of what it takes to achieve the world title in
barrel racing, here’s a brief summary. Competitors
attend various rodeos and win prize money. The top 15
earners for the entire year are invited to compete at the
National Finals Rodeo (NFR) that takes place each
December in Las Vegas, Nevada. During this ten-day
event, each rider performs ten times (with prize money
awarded each day); the rider with the highest earnings
is determined to be the world champion.
Although Kappy was thrilled with that honor,
she is more proud of another statistic that
is highly unusual…she competed at the
NFR for four consecutive years on the
same horse and during each year she
had clean rounds (this means that she
went around the pattern and did not
hit a single barrel during all four
years). Being at this event on the
same horse for four consecutive
years is unusual in itself, never mind
the icing on the cake—competing with
clean rounds. Needless to say, Kappy
is considered a consistent performer
who loves to compete with Risky
Chris. Kappy qualified in four different
years for the Wrangler National Final
Rodeo (for us non-horse folks, that’s like
the Wimbledon of the horse world). Only
the top people are invited to attend. But the
honors don’t end there. In addition to her 2000
world title, other highlights include:
- In 2004, she won the tour and aggregate title at
the National Western Rodeo in Denver.
- In 2003 she won at five different rodeos.
- In 2002 she competed as part of the U.S. team at
the Olympic Command Performance Rodeo.
- In 2001 she won the aggregate title at the
Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and qualified for
the 2002 Olympic Command Performance Rodeo
in Farmington, Utah.
We are delighted that Kappy has agreed to be a
Simplexity Health spokesperson, bringing more exposure to
our products. Kappy will use and promote Simplexity Health
products at competitions, clinics, and public appearances;
we will quote her positive experiences with our
products in promotional literature; she will display our
logo on her horse trailer; and when appropriate, she
will display our logo on competition clothing.
