The United Nations estimates that, worldwide, 12.3 million people are enslaved. Yes, slavery still exists. To draw attention to the problem of global slavery and human trafficking, actor Peter Gadiot will join a ten-member crew to row across the Atlantic Ocean from the Canary Islands to Antigua. Besides supporting a number of charitable causes, the rowers will also be attempting to break the current cross-Atlantic rowing record of 33 days.

"Having travelled to many countries across the world and seen, firsthand, some of the effects of modern-day slavery, I really wanted to do something big to raise awareness of this issue," says Peter of his Rowing Against Slavery project.

The challenges they face are formidable. They must row 3000 miles with no support boat, on a route fraught with dangers and hardships such as temperamental weather, massive oil tankers, sharks and other sea creatures, sleep deprivation, back pain, weight loss, and blisters, as well as a lack of cooked food and toilet facilities. Yet they are spurred on by their sense of adventure, the satisfaction of achieving a special goal and, most importantly, the knowledge that their endeavor will bring much-needed attention to a modern global tragedy.

This project has attracted local, national, and international public attention. Naturally, many of the people from around the world who will follow the progress of these intrepid athletes are very interested themselves in physical fitness. This presents an excellent opportunity for Simplexity Health, as one of Peter Gadiot’s sponsors, to reach an international audience with our message of overall health and well-being.

The physical challenges alone are sure to be daunting, and the team will need to have access to optimum nutrition in a convenient form. That’s where we come in. To support their physical needs—as well as a noble cause—Simplexity Health is providing the crew with a good supply of BG Bars.

Sponsorship and donations from companies and individuals to help fund the project and raise money for anti-slavery charities are invited via the project’s website at http://www.rowingagainstslavery.org.
