The Four Nutritional Building Blocks of Health

This philosophy grows out of our Functional Nutrition Health Model.
What is Functional Nutrition?
Functional Nutrition is NEED-BASED Nutrition. It recognizes the scientific fact that in order for our body’s cells and organs and systems to function normally…certain basic biological or physiological NEEDS must be met. As long as we meet these needs effectively and consistently…the body thrives…and we call this Health and Well-Being.
Functional Nutrition teaches us that our health and well-being is our responsibility. We need to learn how to be and become more proactive in our own self-care.

These four building blocks of Functional Nutrition support the cellular foundation of our lives. Strong cellular foundations provide the benefits we experience as energy, vitality and radiant health and well-being.
Building Block One
Nourish with Superfood Nutrition
A superfood is an organic quality whole food, preferably wild-grown; which contains a broad-spectrum and balanced synergy of many needed micro-nutrients; especially difficult to obtain micronutrients like certain amino acids and trace-minerals. Superfoods are bioactive which means their nutrients are easily available and require little to no energy output on the part of the body to digest and absorb them; unlike most other whole foods; like cooked whole grains, and cooked beans, and carrots and broccoli, etc. Simplexity Health’s Super Blue Green Algae (Alpha Sun and Omega Sun) is one of the most important superfoods ever discovered!
Micronutrients are substances that are essential in certain amounts for the proper growth and metabolism of a living organism. These nutrients include vitamins, minerals, trace minerals, amino acids, Essential Fatty Acids (or EFA’s),antioxidants and phytonutrients. Phytonutrients are plant-based nutrients including pigments like chlorophyll which gives plants their green color and phycocyanin which gives our blue green algae its blue color when you mix the powder in water.
Superfoods provide the micronutrients we need in order to grow, regulate, , defend regenerate and communicate on a cellular level. They’re Essential!
An Important Point: Micronutrients will help the body feel more energy, experience more mental clarity, focus, attention, concentration, memory, foster better sleep, facilitate better recovery from our exercise routines, decrease mood swings and help bring more balance to our mental and emotional well-being.

Building Block Two
Energize with Digestive Nutrition
Digestive Nutrients help our body to correctly break down foods into useable elements. This means that the micronutrients inside the food are more effectively absorbed and assimilated into our blood…and from there become the fuel for all the cells in our body. Digestive nutrients include the friendly bacteria called “probiotics” and “digestive enzymes”
Digestive Enzymes (in supplement form) lighten the burden of the digestive process by breaking down food such as proteins, fats and carbohydrates into smaller molecules which are then easily absorbed into the blood stream. Enzymes ensure that micronutrients in our food can be safely utilized. It is not only a matter of what we eat—it is a matter of how well we can use what we eat!
Overcooking destroys the natural enzymes in our foods; and preserved, processed or packaged foods are very difficult for our body to break down without assistance.
Undigested food which is not broken down sufficiently can accumulate as undiscarded waste and eventually weaken our digestive system and our whole body. Over time, poor digestion can lead to long term health issues including many different symptoms and conditions. Many health experts agree that digestive wellness is the key to overall health and well-being.
We have two digestive enzyme products: SBG Zymes and SBG Zymes Plus.
Now, let’s look at Probiotics. The word probiotics means literally, “for life” and refers to the beneficial bacteria that live throughout the entire digestive system. The probiotics that live inside our bodies are sometimes called: the intestinal flora.

An Important Point: Without the friendly bacteria (probiotics) to protect our digestive environment, and digestive enzymes to help complete the process of digestion, we cannot extract the micronutrients from our food and properly absorb and assimilate these nutrients into our blood. These supplements are essential. Many people suffer health problems today because they are not experiencing the day to day benefits of digestive enzymes and probiotics in their diet.
Building Block Three
Protect with Antioxidant Nutrition
An antioxidant is a nutrient which is able to safely neutralize a free radical.
Free Radicals are highly reactive molecules which actively destabilize the healthy cells in our body and cause them to function abnormally. The most common result of free radical activity is inflammation; and inflammation triggers common discomforts like headaches, backaches, muscle aches, pain in our joints and ligaments etc. Antioxidants are nutrients from whole food sources which effectively neutralize free radicals and stop their destructive behavior. When you hear the term anti-oxidant, you can almost always think anti-inflammation. And remember, antioxidants are not drugs; they are foods and specialized nutrients derived from foods.
Our immune system is set up to search for, recognize and eliminate free radicals, and to look for cells which free radicals have already damaged, and remove them. This is a primary job of the immune system. Because the body sends out chemical messages to alert the immune system when damage is happening, the system can be overwhelmed and stressed out when there are a lot of signals to respond to all at once. Proper Antioxidant Nutrition can prevent our immune system from getting too stressed out!
An Important Point: Because free radicals are partly the result of normal metabolic processes, environmental toxins, and various insulting habits in our diet and lifestyle; we must be able to contain their destructive effects efficiently and quickly or suffer long term health problems. This is the job of antioxidant nutrients: to contain and safely neutralize free radicals.

The fourth nutritional building block is reserved for products that target specific immune functions that may not be as comprehensively addressed in the previous three areas. Products in our Specialized Nutrition Building Block are: StemPlex, ImmuSun and OsteoSun

Why are some of the products included in more than one nutritional building block?
Great Question! Some of our product formulas are so synergistic and inclusive, that they meet the criteria for more than one building block. This is a result of the broad spectrum and balanced synergy of many nutritional factors in general; but in particular, the broad spectrum of bioavailable micronutrients in Super Blue Green Algae which is why we add it to so many of our other products. In fact we add it to all of our products except ImmuSun.
